Why Choose an Automatic Pool Cover?

An automatic pool cover is more than just a convenience – it’s an investment in security, savings, and peace of mind. From reducing heat loss and chemical use to keeping debris out, automatic covers make pool ownership easier and more energy-efficient. Whether for a family pool or a luxury installation, they combine practicality with long-term value. We can upgrade your existing pool, repair or replace your current cover, or install one as part of a brand-new pool build.

Here’s why an automatic cover makes sense:

  • Maintenance & Efficiency: Pools with an ill-fitting cover lose heat, waste chemicals, and constantly collect debris, leading to higher running costs and more work.
  • Convenience & Practicality: With just the turn of a key, you can cover your pool in seconds. Fitted automatic and electric covers keep your water clean, reduce energy bills, and protect children and pets.
  • Safety & Support: Not all automatic covers are true safety covers. That’s why we guide you to the right solution for your pool, ensuring you get reliable protection, long-lasting value and expert guidance and installation from start to finish.

FAQs

FAQs

There are lots of variables when it comes to the price of an automatic swimming pool cover – pool size, shape, type of cover and installation type. But on average, a full retrofit, including installation onto an existing pool is between £15,000–£35,000 +, for a full fabric safety cover or from £10,000 – £25,000+ for a slatted cover. An upgrade or replacement can be cheaper as aspects of the system can be reused and installation can be simpler. When you get in touch with us we will arrange a site visit to ensure we can accurately quote you for the most efficient cover installation.

While it’s a higher upfront investment than a manual cover, it offers long-term savings on heating, chemicals, and cleaning.

Yes, it is a great way to upgrade your pool’s safety, efficiency and look — our retrofitted automatic pool covers can be installed onto most existing indoor and outdoor pools, regardless of size or shape. This means you don’t need a brand-new build to enjoy the safety, convenience, and efficiency of an electric pool cover.

With regular care and annual servicing, a fabric or slatted automatic pool cover can last between 7–10 years, depending on usage, chemical balance in the pool and maintenance.

There are varying warranties across each cover manufacturer, most reputable companies will offer 5-7 years on the slats or cover fabric, there will be less on the motor and wearing parts. The reinforced PVC fabric/slats and mechanism are designed for durability, and individual components such as the fabric, bearings or guide ropes can be replaced if needed.

We offer annual cover servicing, one-off repairs or full fabric and track replacements. Contact our team today to get a personalised quotation.

Yes, automatic pool covers can be safety covers – but only certain types. A properly installed PVC fabric automatic cover forms a strong barrier that can support weight and prevent accidents, while slatted and manual covers are not considered full safety covers in the UK.

Automatic pool covers can provide excellent safety, but not all models are classed as safety covers. A correctly installed PVC fabric automatic safety cover creates a strong barrier that helps prevent accidents involving children and pets. Many are designed to support significant weight and completely seal the pool, meaning they can even be walked on when closed.

By contrast, slatted covers float on the surface using the natural buoyancy of their materials and therefore are not considered full safety covers in the UK. Similarly, manual covers also float and can be dangerous — if a child or pet were to fall onto one, it could sink and wrap around them, making it difficult to exit the pool safely.

For maximum safety, the key switch to operate your pool cover should always be installed within sight of the pool, ensuring the area is clear before closing.

Yes, fabric and slatted automatic pool covers save energy by sealing the water surface, reducing heat loss, and lowering evaporation. This means you’ll use less energy for heating and fewer chemicals to keep your pool clean.

Automatic pool covers are one of the most effective ways to improve pool efficiency. By creating a tight seal across the water, they reduce heat loss overnight and minimise evaporation, which is one of the biggest causes of energy waste in pools. This helps your pool retain warmth for longer, meaning you’ll spend less on heating and reduce chemical usage. Over time, the savings on energy bills and maintenance often offset the initial investment in an electric pool cover, making them both cost-effective and eco-friendly.
