Considering a luxury pool in Bromley

How much does a swimming pool cost?

Typically £65,000 to £150,000+

A smaller garden does not necessarily mean giving up on the idea of having a swimming pool. The important questions are how much space is genuinely available, how you want to use the pool and how the site can be accessed during installation.

Our Bromley project is a good example. At 6.6 metres by 3 metres, it is one of the more compact pools we have built, but it was designed to provide far more than somewhere to cool off. A counter-current unit creates a continuous flow of water to swim against, allowing the client to swim properly without needing the length of a conventional lap pool.

Space around the pool was considered just as carefully. A custom stainless-steel lid and cover tray were designed as part of the installation, helping the technical elements of the pool work within the available garden rather than taking unnecessary space from it.

The result is not about squeezing a standard pool into a smaller garden. It is about choosing the right pool, equipment and specification for the space available.

A Recent Pool Project in Bromley

A Recent Pool Project in Bromley

This 6.6m × 3m one-piece swimming pool was installed in a compact Bromley garden where access required careful logistical planning. The pool was craned into position and designed at a constant depth of 1.5 metres.

A counter-current unit allows the client to swim continuously despite the pool’s compact dimensions, while a custom stainless-steel lid and cover tray help make efficient use of the space around it.

The finished project went on to receive a SPATA Gold Award.

Can you build a Pool with Limited Access?

Access is one of the first things we consider when we visit a property.

A garden may have enough room for a pool but no straightforward route for machinery, materials or, in the case of a one-piece pool, the pool shell itself. That does not necessarily make the project impossible. It changes how the installation needs to be planned.

On our Bromley project, the one-piece pool was craned into the garden. This meant the access strategy had to be considered as part of the project from the outset, rather than after the pool had already been specified.

Every property is different, so we assess access during the early stages and work out what is practical before recommending a particular construction method

New Pool
The team at Mermaid were excellent to work with from design and scoping through to implementation, working alongside our garden landscaping team, and now, 4 years on, with ongoing care of the pool. It has been transformative for our kids and is used for hours almost every day and looks as good as it did the day it was finished. Thanks guys we really appreciate what you have done.

Maintenance
The Mermaid team looked after our pool for many years. The Russell family run a very professional operation that is responsive, reliable and friendly. The regular service visits, adapted to the seasons, ensured that our pool was always in perfect condition. When equipment needed replacing, the recommended materials were of excellent quality and good value for money. If you are considering investing in a new pool or need help in managing your existing pool, I highly recommend Mermaid to do the job.

Mermaid was fantastic from beginning to end on our recent pool project. The team was professional, knowledgeable and kept us updated every step of the way. They stayed on schedule, worked within our budget and were genuinely a joy to work with. The final result exceeded expectations and we absolutely love our pool. We would not hesitate to recommend Mermaid to anyone thinking about one .

New Pool
We are absolutely delighted with our new swimming pool. Mermaid have made an excellent area for us to relax and unwind by and keep fit. From the very first visit, through the planning phase and onto the build and construction Mermaid were very reliable and professional. Nothing was too much trouble and they listened to our wishes. All the staff are reliable and friendly. We have Mermaid maintain our pool and they keep the pool and water quality to a high standard. If we have any minor problems or concerns they always come over to sort them out in a timely fashion. We have no regrets in having Mermaid construct and maintain our pool and I would strongly recommend them. 5 stars well deserved. Keep up the good work.

FAQs

FAQs

There are lots of variables when it comes to the price of a swimming pool, including its size, construction method, finishes and specification. Typically, our swimming pool projects range from £65,000 to £150,000+.

Not necessarily. Pool size should be determined by the available space and how you want to use it rather than by a standard minimum.

Our Bromley project measures 6.6m × 3m and includes a counter-current unit, allowing the client to swim continuously without needing the length of a larger pool.

A site visit allows us to assess the available garden, access and practical options before advising you on what will work.

Potentially, yes. Restricted access needs to be considered from the beginning because it can influence the most appropriate pool type and installation method.

For our Bromley project, the one-piece pool shell was craned into the garden. We assess access during the initial stages so that the logistics form part of the design and planning rather than becoming an issue once construction has started.

We construct pools all year round, but there are conditions and situations that we have to take into account, such as air temperature and even material temperatures. If either one of these is too high or too low, it can affect crystallisation and strength of the bonding and construction materials we use. Luckily, we know what we’re doing and won’t do anything that might negatively affect the quality of your pool. To guarantee a long-lasting and well-built pool, ALWAYS use the services of a professional and accredited company.

Swimming pools typically start at 5m in length and in domestic settings normally extend up to 16m or longer. But if you prefer a 25m lap pool or even a compact 2.5m × 2.5m plunge pool, we can build that too. It really depends on how much space you have.

Absolutely! We highly recommend and encourage customising your swimming pool to be exactly as you want. This could be as simple as choosing a unique coloured tile or surround, or as extensive as adding a custom beach area, swim training zone, or specialised steps. A pool is a lifetime investment that you want to use all year round for exercise, entertainment and relaxation, so make it your own.

Outdoor domestic swimming pools typically don’t require planning permission since they can usually be installed under permitted development rights. They’re considered incidental to the enjoyment of the main house and can be built without an application, as long as they meet specific limits and conditions.
We recommend checking with your local planning authority, especially if your property or the surrounding area has any of the following classifications:

  • Designated land
  • National Landscape
  • Green Belt land
  • Listed building
  • Conservation area.

A typical in-ground swimming pool installation takes 4 to 16 weeks, though some projects can be completed in as little as 3 weeks. The timeline varies based on the pool type (Gunite, Cast Concrete or Mono-block), size, complexity and custom features. Concrete pools generally take longer due to the curing process, especially for complex custom projects – but their customisation options and durability make the extra time worthwhile.
