Considering a luxury pool in East Sussex

How much does a swimming pool cost?

Typically £65,000 to £150,000+

From new pool construction and refurbishment to heating, covers and ongoing maintenance, our East Sussex customers have the support of the same experienced team from initial design through to aftercare.

The right solution starts with the property itself: the available space, access, how you want to use the pool and the level of ongoing support you need. We then design the pool and its filtration, heating, cover and other systems together so that the specification works as a whole.

We work across the north of East Sussex and the wider Sussex Weald, including Crowborough, Wadhurst, Mayfield and the surrounding area. If you are further afield, speak to us about your location and project and we can confirm whether it falls within our working area.

Our Recent Pool in East Sussex

Our Recent Pool in East Sussex

At 14m × 6m, this is the largest pool in our current case-study portfolio. The reinforced concrete panel pool ranges from 1.21m to 2.43m deep and holds approximately 155m³ of water.

The specification includes internal squared-corner cast concrete steps, porcelain overlip copings and two Norsup P26 heat pumps. The heating system was designed around the volume of water and the client’s aim of extending the swimming season rather than simply meeting a minimum specification.

The project is a good example of why construction method and equipment specification need to be considered together when designing a larger residential pool.

New Pool
The team at Mermaid were excellent to work with from design and scoping through to implementation, working alongside our garden landscaping team, and now, 4 years on, with ongoing care of the pool. It has been transformative for our kids and is used for hours almost every day and looks as good as it did the day it was finished. Thanks guys we really appreciate what you have done.

Maintenance
The Mermaid team looked after our pool for many years. The Russell family run a very professional operation that is responsive, reliable and friendly. The regular service visits, adapted to the seasons, ensured that our pool was always in perfect condition. When equipment needed replacing, the recommended materials were of excellent quality and good value for money. If you are considering investing in a new pool or need help in managing your existing pool, I highly recommend Mermaid to do the job.

Refurbishment
Mermaid was fantastic from beginning to end on our recent pool project. The team was professional, knowledgeable and kept us updated every step of the way. They stayed on schedule, worked within our budget and were genuinely a joy to work with. The final result exceeded expectations and we absolutely love our pool. We would not hesitate to recommend Mermaid to anyone thinking about one .

New Pool
Would highly recommend Mermaid Pools - everything from initial discussions with the sales team to the site prep and pool build, then after sales service has been great. Always responsive in a timely manner if we need advice or a call out and all the team are professional, friendly and efficient. So glad we chose Mermaid to create our beautiful pool.

New Pool
We are absolutely delighted with our new swimming pool. Mermaid have made an excellent area for us to relax and unwind by and keep fit. From the very first visit, through the planning phase and onto the build and construction Mermaid were very reliable and professional. Nothing was too much trouble and they listened to our wishes. All the staff are reliable and friendly. We have Mermaid maintain our pool and they keep the pool and water quality to a high standard. If we have any minor problems or concerns they always come over to sort them out in a timely fashion. We have no regrets in having Mermaid construct and maintain our pool and I would strongly recommend them. 5 stars well deserved. Keep up the good work.

FAQs

FAQs

There are lots of variables when it comes to the price of a swimming pool, including its size, construction method, finishes and specification. Typically, our swimming pool projects range from £65,000 to £150,000+.

We regularly work across the north of East Sussex and the wider Sussex Weald, including Crowborough, Wadhurst, Mayfield and the surrounding countryside.

Our usual working area is approximately 40 to 50 miles from our base near Sandhurst in Kent, but that is a guide rather than a strict boundary. If you’re elsewhere in East Sussex, contact us with your location and project and we’ll let you know whether we can help.

Heating and heat retention should be considered together.

The correct heating system depends on factors including pool size, water volume and how many months of the year you want to swim. A suitable pool cover can then help retain that heat when the pool is not being used.

Our 155m³ Crowborough pool uses two heat pumps because extending the swimming season formed part of the original specification.

Yes. Pool equipment needs to be sized around the actual pool and how it will be used.

Larger water volumes place greater demands on filtration and heating, so these systems should be specified as part of the overall design. For our 14m × 6m Crowborough project, two heat pumps were incorporated to meet the requirements of the 155m³ pool.

Swimming pools typically start at 5m in length and in domestic settings normally extend up to 16m or longer. But if you prefer a 25m lap pool or even a compact 2.5m × 2.5m plunge pool, we can build that too. It really depends on how much space you have.

Absolutely! We highly recommend and encourage customising your swimming pool to be exactly as you want. This could be as simple as choosing a unique coloured tile or surround, or as extensive as adding a custom beach area, swim training zone, or specialised steps. A pool is a lifetime investment that you want to use all year round for exercise, entertainment and relaxation, so make it your own.

Outdoor domestic swimming pools typically don’t require planning permission since they can usually be installed under permitted development rights. They’re considered incidental to the enjoyment of the main house and can be built without an application, as long as they meet specific limits and conditions.
We recommend checking with your local planning authority, especially if your property or the surrounding area has any of the following classifications:

  • Designated land
  • National Landscape
  • Green Belt land
  • Listed building
  • Conservation area.

A typical in-ground swimming pool installation takes 4 to 16 weeks, though some projects can be completed in as little as 3 weeks. The timeline varies based on the pool type (Gunite, Cast Concrete or Mono-block), size, complexity and custom features. Concrete pools generally take longer due to the curing process, especially for complex custom projects – but their customisation options and durability make the extra time worthwhile.
